community
In addition to holding regular weekly practice sessions throughout the year, at the Victory Hall in Mobberley, to ensure our members maintain fitness levels and performance readiness, we have undertaken a range of activities that enable us to fulfil our aims as set out in our constitution.
- We have given performances at the Mobberley Rose Queen Festival and the Knutsford May Day Celebrations. These activities support our local town and village in their efforts to promote community cohesion and a sense of community spirit and links with the past and its traditions.
- We spent an evening with a group of Brownies in Altincham, teaching them one of our dances and explaining the history and culture of the Morris - thereby enabling them to obtain their culture badge and us to pass on our traditions to another generation.
- We entertained a group of children from Chernobyl who were staying at Terra Nova school as part of a respite trip to the UK organised by another local charity. We danced for children, the children then joined us in a dance and then they sang for us - a really moving cultural exchange evening.
- With support from our local Community College in Macclesfield we planned and prepared for the running of a 12-week evening class that was promoted to the local community - it is hoped this will run in the autumn term and will help us to recruit new dancers and musicians.
- In addition to the above, we have organised weekly dance performance throughout the summer months both in our own village of Mobberley and many of the other villages in our area, inviting other Morris teams to join us for the entertainment of local residents.
